George, an Indian born in Kerala, India, and the first minority elected to the county’s top position, built his political brand around his immigrant status.
The jury unanimously rejected defense claims that the transfers were innocent “loans” repaid to himself, convicting him on both third-degree felony charges after more than a week of testimony and four hours of deliberation.
George displayed no visible emotion as the verdict was read.
He was placed him in handcuffs and escorted him from the courtroom. He posted a $20,000 bond later that day and remains free pending sentencing on June 16.
